When I got pregnant with my first son I wanted all the information! I wanted to know everything there was to know about pregnancy and birth. I took hypnobirthing classes and was amazed at everything I DIDN’T know or what my doctors weren’t telling me. When I would talk to girlfriends about all of the choices in birth and beyond they didn’t have a lot of answers either.
Fast forward to after giving birth and the magic 6 week appointment when I was given the “go ahead” to resume everything as usual. “Umm do you know I just became a mom and sometimes I pee a little when I sneeze. And you say I can just jump back into my old running routine”. I don’t think so. I had a lot of hiccups and didn’t know where to even begin looking for help.
That’s when I decided to become my own advocate. I searched for information about everything postpartum fitness and what was “safe” and “unsafe”. What I found is that there is a lot of confusing information out there. There is no one size fits all answer to what postpartum women should or shouldn’t be doing when it comes to movement and exercise.
